Can You Play GTA 6 on Meta Quest 3? How It Works
Not as a VR game, and not through the cloud. But if you own an Xbox or a PS5, you can stream GTA 6 from your own console to a Quest. Here's the honest version.

In this article
GTA 6 is not coming to Meta Quest. There’s no Quest version on the Meta store, no VR mode, and Rockstar’s last attempt at a Quest game, a VR remake of San Andreas, has been on hold since 2024. Our GTA 6 VR explainer has the full story.
That doesn’t mean a Quest is useless for GTA 6. If you own the game on an Xbox, you can stream it from your own console to the headset and play on a big virtual screen, using an official Microsoft feature. PS5 owners can do something similar, though only through an unofficial route. Here’s how both work and what to expect.
Remote Play is not cloud streaming
This is where most of the confusion comes from. On October 6, a report claimed GTA 6 would be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming, which runs in a browser on PCs and headsets. Xbox’s strategy chief Matthew Ball denied it the same day, saying the game “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC”. We covered the back-and-forth in our news story on the streaming report.
Remote Play is different. Cloud Gaming runs the game on Microsoft’s servers. Remote Play runs it on your own Xbox at home and sends the picture to another screen. You still need to own the console and the game. The Quest becomes a second screen for the Xbox under your TV.
Xbox owners: the official route
Since April 2025, Xbox Remote Play has worked in the web browser on Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest 2 and Quest Pro. You open the Quest’s browser, go to xbox.com/remoteplay, sign in with the same Xbox account as your console, and connect. Microsoft says it works with any game installed on the console, which is why it should work with GTA 6 too.
You’ll need a few things in place first. Your Xbox has to have remote features turned on in its settings and should be left in sleep mode, not fully off, so it can wake up when you connect. You’ll also need a Bluetooth controller paired to the Quest, such as an Xbox Wireless Controller, because the Quest’s own motion controllers can’t act as a gamepad. A strong home network matters most of all. A wired connection for the Xbox and a good 5GHz or Wi-Fi 6 signal for the headset will make the biggest difference to lag and picture quality.
PS5 owners: the unofficial route
Sony doesn’t offer PS5 Remote Play on Quest, partly because it sells its own headset, the PS VR2. Quest owners have found a way around it by sideloading Sony’s Remote Play app onto the headset with SideQuest, a tool for installing apps that aren’t on the Meta store. Once it’s running, you pair a DualSense controller and stream from your PS5 in much the same way.
It works for plenty of people, but it’s unofficial, it takes some technical setup, and a Quest or Sony app update could break it at any time. If you own a PS VR2, the built-in Cinematic Mode is the simpler and supported way to play GTA 6 on a giant virtual screen.
What it’s like to play
Either way, you’re watching a flat stream of the game on a large virtual screen. It isn’t VR, and the image is compressed video sent over your home network, so it won’t look as sharp as the same console plugged into a good TV. Expect a little input lag, which matters less in GTA’s driving and exploring than in tight gunfights.
Battery life is the other limit. A Quest 3 typically lasts a couple of hours on a charge, which is far shorter than a GTA 6 session tends to be. A battery strap or a charging cable helps if you plan to play for long.
Who this is for
Streaming to a Quest makes sense if your TV is shared, if you want to play in another room, or if you already own a headset and like the big-screen feel. It’s not worth buying a Quest just for GTA 6. If you’re choosing hardware for launch, our guides to the cheapest way to buy GTA 6 and the Xbox Series S version are a better place to start.
Remote Play works with console games today, but GTA 6 isn’t out yet. We’ll test both routes on November 19 and update this guide with how the game streams to a Quest in practice.
