For about half a day, PC players thought they had found a way into GTA 6 on November 19. They hadn't. Xbox has now said plainly that the game will not stream to PC at launch, which puts things back where they were: GTA 6 is a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S game, and PC comes later.

What the report said

On October 6, The Verge reported that Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights to GTA 6 for its launch. The report traced back to an Xbox all-hands meeting where, according to The Verge's sources, Xbox President Asha Sharma told staff the company would do something with GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing." Read alongside the word "exclusive", that sounded like Xbox Cloud Gaming would carry the game, and Xbox Cloud Gaming runs in a web browser on PC. Headlines followed within the hour: GTA 6 playable on PC this November.

What Xbox actually said

Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, answered on X the same day: "While the excitement for GTA VI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."

That one sentence closes two doors. Xbox does not have exclusive streaming rights, and there is no route to playing GTA 6 on a PC through Microsoft's cloud at launch. Reporting since then describes the arrangement as a cloud deal for Xbox consoles. Neither Rockstar nor Xbox has published the details, so treat anything more specific than that as unconfirmed until one of them does.

Is GTA 6 on Game Pass?

No. Nothing in this story changes that. GTA 6 is a full-price purchase on both consoles, and our Game Pass and PS Plus explainer covers why a subscription launch was never likely for a Rockstar game of this size.

So when does GTA 6 come to PC?

There is still no announced date. Rockstar has released every major game on consoles first, and GTA 5 took about nineteen months to reach PC. Most current reporting points to 2027 at the earliest for GTA 6. Our PC release explainer lays out the history and a realistic window.

What PC-only players can do now

If you only own a PC, the choice is the same as it was last week: wait for the port, or buy a console. The cheapest way in is an Xbox Series S, and our Series S explainer covers what that version gives up. If you're weighing a console purchase, check the cheapest ways to buy GTA 6 first, since bundles and trade-in deals move a lot before launch. And if you'd rather wait, our PC performance estimator will give you a rough idea of how your current rig might cope once the port arrives.

Pre-load opens on November 12 and the game unlocks on November 19. Neither date has changed.
