Will GTA 6 Be on Game Pass or PS Plus?

Not at launch. Take-Two's CEO has said a full-price new release on a subscription service doesn't make economic sense. Here's what that means, and what GTA 5's history suggests.

If you were hoping to play GTA 6 through a subscription on day one, the answer is no. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 as a full-price purchase on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, at $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. It isn’t part of Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, and Take-Two has been unusually direct about why.

What Take-Two has said

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, has been asked about this several times. His position, as he told GamesIndustry.biz, is that putting a premium new release into a subscription on day one “doesn’t make any sense to us because, economically speaking, we don’t think consumers are prepared to pay for that.” He acknowledged that a big title would push people to sign up for a subscription service for a while, but said it wouldn’t change Take-Two’s decisions.

That’s consistent with how Take-Two has handled its other big releases. It’s also the opposite of Microsoft’s approach with its own games, which go to Game Pass on day one. For a game expected to be one of the best-selling entertainment launches ever, Take-Two has every reason to sell it rather than license it.

Could it come later?

Possibly, eventually. GTA 5 is the obvious precedent. It launched in 2013 at full price, and years later it appeared on both Game Pass and PS Plus for limited periods, usually as a way to bring players into GTA Online. Those deals came long after the game’s peak sales.

If GTA 6 follows that path, expect years rather than months. Rockstar games keep selling at full price far longer than most, and there’s no sign Take-Two plans anything different here. Anyone telling you a date is guessing.

What you need a subscription for

For GTA 6’s story, nothing. You don’t need PS Plus or Game Pass to play a game you’ve bought, and since GTA 6 launches without an online mode, there’s no multiplayer that would require one either. We cover this in more detail in do you need internet to play GTA 6.

The one subscription tied to the launch is Rockstar’s own GTA+, and pre-orders include a free month of it. Our GTA+ explainer covers what it does and doesn’t give you.

Cheaper ways to play

If the price is the issue, a subscription isn’t the answer, but there are other options: retailer discounts, bundles, and starting with Standard and upgrading later if you want. Our guide to the cheapest ways to buy GTA 6 goes through them, and our price debate explainer covers why it costs what it does.
