The Cheapest Ways to Buy GTA 6
GTA 6 costs $79.99, but you don't have to pay full price. Retailer deals, discounted gift cards, bundles and the $20 upgrade route, plus the key sellers to avoid.

In this article
GTA 6’s official price is $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for Ultimate. That’s a lot, and the price debate isn’t going away. But the console stores’ list price isn’t the only price. Here are the legitimate ways to pay less, starting with the simplest.
1. Buy Standard, not Ultimate
The most reliable saving is also the most obvious. Standard is the full game. The Microsoft Store sells a $20 Ultimate Edition Upgrade as an add-on, so you can start with Standard and only pay for the extras if you decide you want them. Both editions get the Vintage Vice City Pack when you buy before launch.
2. Check retailers for the boxed code
Big retailers often discount new releases slightly, or offer store credit or loyalty points with a purchase. Since the physical edition is a download code in a box, a boxed copy is the same game as a digital one, and it arrives on November 12 so you can still pre-load. If a shop has it cheaper than the console store, that’s a saving with no downside, as long as you’re happy that you can’t resell it.
3. Use discounted store credit
PlayStation and Xbox gift cards are sometimes sold at a discount by large retailers, especially around sales events. Buying credit cheaply and then buying the game digitally can knock a few dollars off. Only buy gift cards from major retailers or the console makers themselves.
4. Look at console bundles if you need hardware
If you’re buying a console for GTA 6 anyway, a bundle can bring the effective price of the game down sharply. In the UK, EE is already selling PS5 and PS5 Pro bundles that include GTA 6 at a discount. Sony and Microsoft haven’t announced official bundles as of early October. Our trade-in and bundle deals page tracks what’s available.
5. Trade in old games
Retailer trade-in promotions tend to ramp up before big releases, sometimes with bonus credit when it goes towards a specific new game. If you have old discs or hardware you don’t use, it’s worth checking values in the weeks before November 19.
6. Wait for the first sale
Rockstar games hold their price for a long time, so don’t expect a big discount soon. The first meaningful cuts are more likely around holiday sales in late 2026 or early 2027, and even then they’re usually modest. Waiting also means waiting for the story, so this is the right choice only if the price really is the deciding factor.
What to avoid
Grey-market key sites are the one place to stay away from. They sell codes from unknown sources, which can be region-locked, missing the pre-order bonus, or revoked later if they were bought with stolen cards. A few dollars isn’t worth losing the game. Also ignore anything claiming GTA 6 is free, available early, or downloadable on PC: fake GTA 6 sites spreading malware have been reported throughout 2026.
And there’s no subscription route. GTA 6 isn’t on Game Pass or PS Plus at launch.
