GTA 6 Guide 2026:
Everything You Need to Know
A deep dive into the mechanics, gameplay, and technology behind Grand Theft Auto VI, from Vice City's neon-lit streets to the systems running underneath it all.
Grand Theft Auto VI brings Rockstar back to Vice City for the first time in over two decades. This time it's set in the fictional state of Leonida, a satirical, sun-soaked take on modern Florida. It launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, on a map that's roughly twice the size of GTA V's combined Los Santos and Blaine County.
For the first time in the series' HD era, the story is told through two playable leads, Lucia and her partner Jason. Lucia is the franchise's first playable female protagonist, and their Bonnie and Clyde style criminal partnership drives a story Rockstar has promised is more character focused than anything the series has done before, spread across dozens of missions and multiple in-game chapters.
Underneath it all is RAGE 9, Rockstar's newest engine. It brings ray-traced lighting, simulated water physics, denser AI-driven crowds, and a grounded weapon and inventory system that's clearly influenced by Red Dead Redemption 2. Below, we break down everything currently known, region by region and system by system.
Map, Locations & Setting
Welcome to Leonida, Rockstar's vast, sun-soaked, rain-drenched take on modern-day Florida. At its heart is Vice City, a return to the series' most iconic setting. It's been rebuilt from the ground up, with a denser downtown, a longer stretch of beachfront, and lighting that shifts dramatically between day, night, and passing storms.
Surrounding the city are six confirmed regions, each with its own identity: Port Gellhorn's working docks and shipping yards, the mountainous wilderness of Mount Kalaga, the island-hopping Leonida Keys, the alligator-filled wetlands of Grassrivers, and the quiet farm towns of Ambrosia. Together they add up to roughly twice the explorable space of GTA V's combined Los Santos and Blaine County.
Our own tracking currently documents 700+ mapped locations across all six regions, and the number keeps growing as new trailers and screenshots confirm additional landmarks. Every district description on our interactive map is community-maintained and updated the moment something new is confirmed.

Characters & Missions
A Bonnie and Clyde inspired criminal drama drives the story, with GTA 6 featuring dual protagonists for the first time in the HD era: Lucia and Jason. Their partnership is equal parts romantic and criminal, and it shapes how missions unfold. Rockstar has promised deeper, more character-driven storytelling than any earlier entry in the series.
Lucia is the franchise's first fully playable female lead in a mainline entry, and both she and Jason are fully voice-acted with their own story beats. Who you're controlling in a given moment can change how a scene plays out. The supporting cast looks just as central too, and Vice City's criminal underworld is shaping up to feel like a character in its own right, not just a backdrop.
Missions are organized across multiple in-game chapters or acts, each with its own mission giver, reward structure, and difficulty rating. Our Missions database tracks all of this in detail as new story beats get confirmed through trailers and leaks.
Meet the CastVehicles & Driving
Powered by RAGE 9, GTA 6's vehicle physics aim for realistic weight, suspension, and momentum across every car, bike, boat, and aircraft in the game. Our database currently tracks over 100 vehicles across every type Rockstar has shown so far, from everyday sedans to top-tier supercars.
The lineup spans supercars, sports and muscle cars, motorcycles, sedans and SUVs, off-road trucks, commercial and emergency vehicles, plus a full air and sea category covering aircraft and watercraft. Each type handles noticeably differently this time, a lesson Rockstar seems to have learned from the more uniform driving feel of earlier GTA titles.
Deep customization is back too. Body kits, paint jobs, and performance upgrades let you build a garage that's entirely your own. Every vehicle page on our site includes projected top speed, handling rating, and manufacturer details as they get confirmed.
Weapons & Combat
Combat leans grittier and more grounded this time around. Expect an inventory-based weapon system, cover mechanics inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2, and a diverse arsenal spanning sidearms to heavy explosives, each with its own handling feel instead of reused animation sets.
Our Arsenal database currently tracks 39 confirmed and projected weapons across handguns, shotguns, SMGs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, heavy weapons and explosives, and melee. Each one is rated on damage, fire rate, accuracy, range, and mobility as details get confirmed.
Attachments and modifications carry over from GTA V's Gunsmith system, but with more granular customization expected. Think extended magazines, optics, and grips that visibly change how a weapon looks and performs, not just stat tweaks buried in a menu.
Graphics & Engine
Running on the new RAGE 9 engine, GTA 6 is shaping up to be this generation's visual benchmark. Ray-traced lighting, simulated water physics, and dense, independently-behaving crowds are all built to push console, and eventually PC, hardware to its limit.
Confirmed engine features include 16K-capable texture support, ray-traced global illumination that bounces light realistically off Vice City's neon-lit streets, real-time wave and current simulation along the coastline, and DLSS 4 and FSR 4 upscaling support to help mid-range hardware hold a steady frame rate.
On top of the visual leap, RAGE 9 is also driving smarter, more independent NPC behavior and dynamic Florida-style weather that affects gameplay, not just a backdrop. Once Rockstar confirms a PC release, we'll post full projected PC specs on our System Requirements page.
Release Date & Editions
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has confirmed there's no PC version at launch, following the same pattern as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, both of which reached PC roughly 8 to 18 months after their console debut.
It's expected the game will ship with both a story mode and an online multiplayer mode in the same package, following GTA V's lead, though Rockstar hasn't said whether GTA Online progress or characters will carry over. No special or Collector's Edition has been announced yet either, and the game is still unrated, though every mainline GTA release so far has carried an M for Mature rating.
Whatever edition you go with, make sure your setup is ready. Check our System Requirements page for projected specs, and our Accessories hub if you need to upgrade your hardware before launch.
