Goodyear Aerospace GZ-20Planes in GTA 6
The Dodo in GTA III was famously hard to fly because Rockstar clipped its wings after 9/11. Vice City in 2002 added the Skimmer seaplane (Cessna 152 with pontoons), the only flyable fixed-wing aircraft in that game. The "Dildo Dodo" mission had Tommy dropping promotional fliers while managing fuel consumption. A DeadDodo variant flew around the city towing advertising banners but could not be obtained by players.
San Andreas expanded aviation dramatically with flight school, the Rustler (P-51 Mustang), Hydra (Harrier Jump Jet with VTOL), Shamal (Learjet 45), and the Andromada cargo plane (Lockheed C-141 Starlifter). GTA 5 added the Mammatus (Cessna 172), Luxor (Citation Jet), Titan (C-130 Hercules), and the Duster biplane for crop dusting missions.
GTA 6 trailers show multiple aircraft types. The Dodo appears early in trailer 1. The Mammatus and Shamal appear in screenshots as background aircraft. A large commercial jet features in trailer 2 backgrounds. Vice City International Airport (VCI) replaces the original Escobar International, matching the real Miami International Airport naming convention.
Plane Types in GTA 6
GTA 6 planes fall into four categories based on their design and purpose.
Light Aircraft
Single-engine propeller planes for personal use. The Mammatus (Cessna 172) and Dodo lead this class. The Duster biplane crop dusts and banner tows. These planes handle small airfields and offer the easiest flight handling for beginners.
Private Jets
Business jets for fast travel across the map. The Shamal (Learjet 60) and Luxor (Citation Jet) offer speed and luxury. The Nimbus combines Gulfstream and Cessna Citation styling. These spawn at major airports and helipad hangars.
Military Aircraft
Armed and transport planes for accessing military bases or completing specific missions. The Hydra offers VTOL and missiles. The Titan (C-130) carries vehicles and cargo. High wanted levels bring military heat.
Seaplanes
Amphibious aircraft with water landing capability. The Skimmer and Dodo (seaplane variant) can land on water using pontoons. Vice City coastlines make seaplanes practical for reaching islands and escaping by water.
Plane Flying Tips
Planes handle differently than helicopters, here's how to master fixed-wing flight.
Takeoff Speed
Build speed on the runway before pulling up. Small planes need about 100 km/h, jets need more. Pulling up too early causes stalling, let the plane lift naturally when ready.
Stall Recovery
When the plane stalls, push the nose down to regain airspeed. Do not pull up until speed recovers. High altitude gives more room to recover, low stalls often end in crashes.
Landing Approach
Reduce throttle early and descend gradually. Line up with the runway far out. Touch down at the start of the runway, not the middle. Apply brakes after wheels contact ground.
Avoid Restricted Airspace
Fort Zancudo and military bases have restricted airspace historically. Flying too close triggers wanted levels and SAM missiles. Stay low or fly around these zones entirely.
Plane Cheat Codes
Rockstar hasn't published any cheat codes for GTA 6 yet.
GTA 5 included cheat codes to spawn two planes (the Stunt Plane Mallard and Duster Crop Duster). GTA 6 may expand this pattern with codes for other planes, but nothing here is confirmed, treat any specific button sequence claiming to be a real GTA 6 cheat code with caution until Rockstar officially confirms it. Note that in past GTA titles, using cheats has disabled achievements and trophies for that session.
Planes vs Helicopters
How do planes compare to helicopters for aerial travel in GTA 6?
| Attribute | Planes | Helicopters | Boats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top Speed | Excellent | Good | Average |
| Takeoff Requirements | Runway/Road | Any Flat Surface | Water Only |
| Hover Ability | No (except Hydra) | Yes | Yes |
| Cross-Map Travel | Best Option | Good | Coastal Only |
| Combat Capability | Military Jets | Attack Helicopters | Limited |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest plane in GTA 6?
Based on what's shown across trailers and community datamines so far, military jets lead the plane class in speed rankings. The Shamal business jet offers the fastest civilian option at around 550 km/h. The Mammatus and other prop planes max out around 200-220 km/h but handle more easily at low speeds. Nothing here is officially confirmed until the game ships.
Where is the airport in GTA 6?
Vice City International Airport (VCI) serves as the main airport. This replaces Escobar International from the original Vice City game. The name change mirrors real Miami International Airport, and trailer footage shows the airport sign alongside VCPD livery.
Can you fly commercial jets in GTA 6?
Large commercial jets appear in GTA 6 trailer backgrounds. In GTA 5, the Jet (Boeing 747 style) could be flown but only spawned at the airport under specific conditions. GTA 6 may include similar jumbo jets for the Vice City International Airport.
What real planes are GTA planes based on?
The Mammatus copies the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The Shamal resembles the Learjet 60. The Hydra combines the Harrier Jump Jet with F-16 intakes. The Titan matches the C-130 Hercules cargo plane.
Are there plane cheat codes for GTA 6?
GTA 6 cheat codes have not been confirmed yet. In GTA 5, only the Stunt Plane (Mallard) and Duster have spawn cheats. Similar jets like the Hydra could be found at military bases or purchased via GTA Online. Expect similar limitations in GTA 6.
