GTA+ and GTA 6: What the Free Month Gets You

Every GTA 6 pre-order includes a month of GTA+. Right now that's GTA Online perks and a library of older Rockstar games. Here's what it costs and how to avoid a surprise renewal.

Pre-order GTA 6 on PlayStation or Xbox and you get one month of GTA+, Rockstar’s paid membership, alongside the Vintage Vice City Pack. It’s a nice extra, but it comes with a renewal catch, and what it actually gives you right now has very little to do with GTA 6.

What GTA+ is today

GTA+ launched in 2022 as a monthly membership for GTA Online on consoles. It costs $7.99 a month (£6.99 in the UK), up from the original $5.99.

Its benefits are mostly GTA Online ones: GTA$500,000 deposited each month, a free vehicle to claim, discounts on cars and properties, bonus rewards on certain activities, and a members’ area in Los Santos. It also comes with the GTA+ Games Library, which currently includes GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, Bully, GTA: The Trilogy (Definitive Edition), GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Chinatown Wars.

If you play GTA Online, or you’ve never played Rockstar’s older games, a month of that is worth having.

What it does for GTA 6

That’s the open question. Rockstar hasn’t said what GTA+ will include for GTA 6. It can’t offer online perks at launch, because GTA 6 launches without an online mode. Rockstar might add story-mode extras, or the membership might remain focused on GTA Online until a new online mode arrives. Don’t assume your free month will unlock anything inside GTA 6 itself.

The catch: it renews

The store listings are clear about the fine print. On PlayStation, the free month auto-renews, so unless you cancel before the next billing date you’ll be charged $7.99. You also need to claim it by March 31, 2027. On Xbox, the month is redeemable within 180 days.

So there’s no need to activate it on launch day. A sensible approach is to hold on to it until Rockstar explains what GTA+ offers for GTA 6, then claim it when it’s worth the most to you, and set a reminder to cancel if you don’t want to keep paying.

Is GTA+ worth paying for after the free month?

For most GTA 6 players in November and December, probably not, since its main benefits are tied to GTA Online. That could change quickly if Rockstar adds GTA 6 content or launches a new online mode, and GTA+ is likely to become the subscription linked to that mode. If you want to think about the bigger picture, our explainers on what happens to GTA Online and microtransactions in story mode cover where Rockstar’s paid extras might go next.

Does GTA+ replace PS Plus or Game Pass?

No. GTA+ is Rockstar’s own membership and sits on top of your console subscription. You don’t need any subscription to play GTA 6’s story, as we explain in do you need internet to play GTA 6.
