Who Is CyberLeek? The GTA 6 Leaker and Take-Two's Legal Fight

In this article
Four years after the biggest leak in gaming history, GTA 6 has another leaker on its hands. Since August 2026, an anonymous account calling itself CyberLeek has been posting what it claims is footage from a playable build of the game, and threatening to release more, including story spoilers. Here's what's happened so far.
What CyberLeek has posted
The first footage appeared on August 18, just before the Netflix Extended Look. On August 24, after running a poll asking fans what to leak next, CyberLeek released a clip from a location dubbed “Nudist Town”, showing Jason walking through the area, photographing characters and then causing chaos. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed the footage is genuine, and even if it is, it would come from an unfinished build. The account has since threatened to post Lucia's prologue, which would give away the opening of the story, and has made demands of Rockstar in exchange for holding back.
Take-Two goes to court
Take-Two's response has been legal rather than public. On August 20 it filed two federal subpoenas in New York against Microsoft and Discord, using a process under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that lets a copyright holder seek the identity of an anonymous infringer without filing a full lawsuit. Judges approved them on August 21. The Discord subpoena asks for identifying data on accounts active in specific servers since June 1, 2026, and the Microsoft one asks for records from Microsoft's own investigation into the CyberLeek persona. Rockstar, for its part, has focused on supporting the developers affected.
Why it matters more this time
The 2022 leak exposed early development footage that was clearly unfinished. Leaks this close to launch are different: they can show near-final content and real story moments. That's also part of why Rockstar chose to ship the physical edition as a download code: with no discs in shops, early boxed copies can't be played before November 19.
How to avoid spoilers
If you want to go in fresh, now is the time to set up your filters. Mute “CyberLeek” and phrases like “GTA 6 leak” on X, avoid leak-focused subreddits, and be careful with YouTube recommendations. Our spoiler guide walks through each platform.
