GTA 6 on Xbox Series S: What to Expect
GTA 6 is confirmed for Series S, and Microsoft's store marks it as made for the Series X|S family. Microsoft and Rockstar haven't published Series S performance details. Here's what's realistic.

If you own an Xbox Series S, the good news is simple: GTA 6 is coming to it on November 19, 2026, the same day as everywhere else. Microsoft’s store lists it for the Series X|S family, with achievements and cloud saves. What neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has published is how it will run on the smaller console.
What’s confirmed
GTA 6 is on Series S. That was never really in doubt, since Microsoft requires games released on Series X to also run on Series S. The store page lists the game as single player, made for the Series X|S family. Pre-loading starts on November 12.
The only performance comment from Rockstar came in August, when Rob Nelson of Rockstar North said the game currently runs at 30fps on consoles, and couldn’t say whether a 60fps mode would come. He didn’t single out the Series S.
What isn’t confirmed
Resolution, graphics modes, ray tracing settings and install size for Series S are all unannounced. Any figure you see quoted as fact, such as “1080p at 30fps”, is an estimate.
What’s realistic to expect
The Series S has roughly a third of the GPU power of the Series X and less memory, so it will run GTA 6 at a lower internal resolution than its bigger sibling. That’s how every major game works on the console. Expect the same world, story, systems and frame-rate target as the other consoles, with a softer image, likely upscaled to 1080p or a little above on your TV, and possibly some cuts to effects like ray-traced reflections or the draw distance of small details.
Expect it to play the same game. What you lose on Series S is sharpness and polish, not content. Everything in the Game Informer cover story applies to every console.
Storage is the real problem
The bigger issue for most Series S owners is space. The console has a 512GB SSD with about 364GB usable for games. With no official install size and estimates of 150 to 200GB, GTA 6 could take up half your usable space or more, and updates will add to that.
A few practical steps help:
- Clear space well before pre-load day on November 12
- Move older games to a USB drive, which can store Series X|S games but can’t run them, so you can move them back without re-downloading
- If you keep many games installed, consider an official storage expansion card, which is the only way to add fast storage that can run current games

Should Series S owners upgrade?
Not before launch, unless you were planning to. The first technical comparisons will appear within days of release, and they’ll show exactly how big the gap is. If you do want a better-looking version, compare the options in our PS5 Pro Enhanced explainer once real results are in.
