GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced: What It Means and What It Doesn't

Sony's store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced. Rockstar hasn't said what that includes. Here's what the label guarantees, and why it doesn't promise 60fps.

Look up GTA 6 on PlayStation’s official site and you’ll see a small label next to the platforms: PS5 Pro Enhanced. It has fuelled a lot of excited posts claiming GTA 6 will run at 60 frames per second on the Pro. That’s not what the label says, so here’s what it does and doesn’t mean.

What “PS5 Pro Enhanced” means

PS5 Pro Enhanced is a Sony badge for games that have been specifically updated to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s stronger GPU and its upscaling technology. It tells you the developer has done extra work for the Pro. It doesn’t tell you what that work is.

In other games the badge has meant very different things. Some use it for sharper resolution at the same frame rate. Some add better ray tracing. Some offer a smoother performance mode. Some do a mix. The badge doesn’t promise any one of these.

What Rockstar has said

Very little. As of early October 2026, neither Rockstar nor Sony has published what GTA 6’s Pro version adds. There’s no confirmed resolution, no confirmed graphics modes, and no confirmed 60fps option on any console, including the Pro.

The closest thing to an official statement came in August, when Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson said during a studio visit that the game currently runs at 30fps on consoles and that he couldn’t yet say whether a 60fps mode would come. He didn’t mention the Pro.

That matters because a lot of what circulates online is either leaks or wishful thinking. Rockstar has not committed to a 60fps mode at launch, and our own 60fps explainer has been corrected to reflect that the PS5 Pro situation is officially unknown rather than settled either way.

What’s realistic to expect

Based on how other big open-world games have used the Pro, the most likely outcome is a cleaner, sharper image than the base PS5, possibly with richer ray-traced lighting or reflections, at a steadier frame rate. A 60fps mode is possible but far from guaranteed in a game this dense, which is simulating weather, traffic and more than 170 animal species across a map roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s, according to the Game Informer cover story.

There’s also a middle option some games use: a 40fps mode for TVs that support 120Hz. That would be a noticeable step up from 30fps without the full cost of 60. Again, nothing is confirmed.

If you want the technical background, our explainers on 30fps vs 60fps and GTA 6’s graphics engine cover why frame rate is such a hard trade-off for a game like this.

Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?

Not yet, unless you were going to buy one anyway. The honest answer is that nobody outside Rockstar and Sony knows how big the difference will be. Once the game is out, side-by-side comparisons from technical analysts will tell you within days whether the Pro version is a small polish or a real upgrade. GTA 6 isn’t going anywhere, and waiting a week for that answer costs you nothing.

If you already own a base PS5, you’ll be playing the same game with the same story, systems and world. The Pro badge is about image quality and smoothness, not content. And if you’re on Xbox, the same caution applies to performance claims about the Series X and Series S, where Microsoft and Rockstar haven’t published specifics either.

What to watch for

The most likely moment for real numbers is launch week, when review embargoes lift and outlets publish performance testing. Rockstar may also share technical details in the final run-up to November 19. We’ll update this page when anything official appears.
