Has GTA 6 Been Delayed Again? Every Delay Explained

GTA 6 has slipped twice already. Here's exactly when each delay happened, why, and what the evidence says about whether a third one is coming.

Has GTA 6 Been Delayed Again? Every Delay Explained

Short answer first, because it’s the thing most people searching this are trying to find out: no, GTA 6 has not been delayed a third time. November 19, 2026 is still the date, and it’s been that way since November 2025. But the question keeps getting asked for a reason. This game genuinely has slipped twice before, and it’s worth walking through exactly what happened rather than just taking “trust us” at face value.

The first date anyone heard wasn’t really a date at all. It was a window. When Trailer 1 dropped in December 2023, Take-Two’s investor communications pointed to a Fall 2025 launch, broadly meaning sometime between September and November of that year. That held for over a year, right up until May 2, 2025, when Rockstar published an official statement, just hours before Trailer 2 was scheduled to premiere, announcing that Fall 2025 wasn’t happening. The new target was May 26, 2026, and the studio’s stated reason was the need for more time to reach the quality bar its previous games are known for. No mention of specific technical problems, no scope changes named publicly, just more time.

The second delay landed differently, mostly because of timing. It was announced on November 6, 2025, roughly six months before that May 2026 date was supposed to arrive, moving the release out to November 19, 2026, the date that’s held ever since. Rockstar gave essentially the same explanation as the first time: more development time, same stated goal of polish. Two delays with the same reasoning, six months apart in terms of decision timing, understandably left a lot of fans assuming a third slip was just a matter of when, not if.

Here’s what’s different about where things stand now, though. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has gone on record multiple times reaffirming November 19 specifically, at a point in the calendar, mid-to-late 2026, when a studio quietly expecting to miss a date would typically be going quiet, not doing press. Instead, August 2026 brought an extended gameplay reveal, not another delay notice. Pre-orders are live, digital pre-loading is scheduled to begin a week early on November 12, and marketing has been ramping up rather than pulling back. None of that guarantees anything. Plans change, and Rockstar itself has demonstrated that twice already, but it’s a meaningfully different pattern of behavior than the run-up to either previous delay.

If you want the fuller story of how the date moved and what it means for platforms and pre-loading, we’ve laid that out separately. This one’s just for the specific worry: is a third delay likely, based on what’s observable right now? As of today, the evidence points to no.
