The Best (and Most Out There) GTA 6 Fan Theories
From Jason secretly being an undercover cop to a returning character's long-lost son, here are the theories worth knowing about, clearly labeled as theories.

Two years of trailers, leaks, and frame-by-frame scrutiny have given the GTA 6 community plenty of raw material to theorize with, and some of what’s come out of that process is genuinely clever detective work, even when it turns out to be wrong. None of what follows is confirmed, that’s the entire point of a theory, but a few have gained enough traction to be worth knowing about, if only so you recognize them when they show up in comment sections.
The theory with the most actual trailer evidence behind it is that Jason is secretly working undercover as a police officer rather than being a straightforward criminal. It’s built on specific details rather than pure speculation: both trailers include glimpses of police body-cam raid footage and a figure who looks like a detective or sergeant, moments that fans have connected into a case for Jason leading a double life. It’s a plausible enough reading of the available footage that even skeptical corners of the fandom take it seriously, though “plausible” is doing a lot of work in that sentence until Rockstar confirms or denies anything about his background.
On the wilder end, there’s persistent speculation about a full cryptocurrency-based economy tied to leaks and secondhand claims from alleged insiders, the idea that GTA 6 might build a play-to-earn style system into its world. This one deserves real skepticism; it traces back to unverified whispers rather than anything resembling a credible source, and it would be a genuinely strange design direction for a single-player-focused launch that Rockstar has explicitly said contains no microtransactions. A more grounded, though still unconfirmed, theory imagines a deeper criminal-operations system, building out drug trafficking, robberies, and money laundering gradually over time rather than through quick, disconnected missions, which at least lines up with the multiple criminal threads already sketched out through characters like Raul Bautista and Brian Heder.
Geography has generated its own theory, built on a genuinely interesting piece of evidence: fans have spotted what look like Liberty City license plates and postcards depicting two separate landmasses in released material, fueling speculation that Vice City and Leonida might be only half of a larger game world rather than the whole map. And for longtime series fans, there’s a smaller, more nostalgic theory worth mentioning: some believe the character named Phil seen in trailer footage could be the son of Phil Cassidy, a recurring gunrunner character from Vice City and Liberty City Stories, adopting his father’s name and business. It’s the kind of legacy-character theory that rewards people who’ve been playing this series since the PS2 era.
The honest through-line across all of these: some rest on real, specific trailer evidence and deserve to be taken seriously as informed speculation; others rest on almost nothing and persist mostly because they’re fun to imagine. Enjoy them for what they are, but keep the label “theory” attached to every one of them until Rockstar says otherwise.
