GTA 6's Melee Weapons, Trailer by Trailer
Baseball bats, hammers, a switchblade tied to the Ultimate Edition, and even a pool cue: the confirmed melee lineup leans hard on series nostalgia.

Melee weapons rarely get the spotlight compared to firearms in GTA coverage, but between trailer footage and promotional images, a genuinely specific list of confirmed melee items has emerged for GTA 6, and it leans heavily on the series’ own history rather than inventing an entirely new arsenal from scratch.
The confirmed list so far includes a baseball bat, a hunting knife, a standard knife, a crowbar, a golf club, a hammer, a pool cue, and unarmed fist combat as its own category. A screenshot set in the Port Gellhorn area shows a character wielding a baseball bat specifically, while a separate sequence of social-media-style clips from the first trailer shows a woman armed with a hammer, a detail that stood out precisely because hammers aren’t a weapon the series has featured prominently before. Elsewhere, a screenshot showing Jason and Cal Hampton playing pool together strongly implies the pool cue seen nearby is meant to double as a melee option, following through on the confirmed friendship between the two characters we’ve covered separately.
One specific weapon carries extra significance because of where it was revealed: a switchblade knife appeared in the promotional image released alongside the Ultimate Edition’s announcement, which ties it directly to the edition’s confirmed bonus content rather than leaving it as a general trailer sighting. That’s a small but useful distinction. It means the switchblade’s existence is confirmed with unusually high confidence, tied to an actual product announcement rather than frame-by-frame trailer analysis.
What’s notable across this whole list is how much of it calls back specifically to earlier entries rather than introducing wholly new melee categories. Baseball bats and golf clubs have been series staples going back years, but hammers and pool cues specifically trace their series debut to Vice City and San Andreas respectively, meaning Rockstar isn’t just bringing back generic “blunt object” weapon types, it’s reviving specific items with real history attached for longtime players who’ll recognize them. Whether that’s a deliberate nostalgia play or simply a natural overlap in what a criminal underworld setting would plausibly contain is hard to say for certain, but the pattern is consistent enough to notice.
None of this constitutes an official, Rockstar-published weapons list. Everything here comes from identifying items across trailers, screenshots, and the one confirmed Ultimate Edition tie-in, the same process used to catalog vehicles and locations elsewhere on this site. But it’s a more specific and more thoroughly cross-referenced list than most pre-launch weapon roundups manage, and it paints a picture of melee combat with real variety behind it, tying into the broader combat overhaul we’ve covered separately rather than existing as an afterthought category.
