Leonida, Vice City & the Map

Every Location Confirmed in Leonida So Far

Vice City is the headline, but Rockstar has named at least five other distinct regions: an industrial port, a sugar-refinery town, and real wetlands among them.

Every Location Confirmed in Leonida So Far

It’s tempting to think of Leonida as “Vice City plus some countryside,” but the regions Rockstar has named so far describe something closer to a full, varied state, each area built around its own industry, culture, and reason to visit rather than existing purely as filler between missions.

Vice City is still the centerpiece, and it needs the least introduction: Rockstar’s long-running, satirical stand-in for Miami, rebuilt as a modern city with all the contradictions that implies, from luxury condos to overlooked neighborhoods. But south of it sit the Leonida Keys, a tropical island chain modeled on the real Florida Keys, built around boats, beaches, and, fittingly for a GTA game, smuggling routes running through its waters. This is also where the game’s confirmed scuba diving and underwater exploration are centered, with reefs, shipwrecks, and marine life populating the surrounding sea floor.

Head inland and the tone changes considerably. Grassrivers is Rockstar’s version of the Everglades, subtropical wetlands built around airboats, alligators, and swamp hideouts, about as far from Vice City’s neon as the map gets. Port Gellhorn sits on the Gulf coast as a run-down industrial port town with what’s been described as a genuine criminal underbelly, less glamorous and more working-class than anything the original Vice City ever depicted.

Ambrosia rounds out the confirmed regions with its own distinct economy: a sugar refinery, the Allied Crystal plant, providing much of the town’s legitimate employment while a local biker gang apparently handles most of what isn’t legitimate. And to the north, Mount Kalaga National Park offers forested highlands built for off-road exploration, a setting that has essentially nothing in common with the coastal image most people still associate with a GTA Florida setting.

Taken together, these confirmed regions tell you something about how Rockstar is thinking about Leonida structurally: not as one dense city surrounded by decoration, but as a set of genuinely different economies and cultures. Tourism and smuggling define the Keys, agriculture and biker crime define Ambrosia, industrial decline defines Port Gellhorn, and wilderness defines Mount Kalaga, all orbiting Vice City without being defined by it. It’s a similar approach to how GTA 5 balanced Los Santos against Blaine County’s desert sprawl, just extended across considerably more territory and more distinct identities.

There will almost certainly be more named locations revealed between now and launch, and likely plenty more that never get individually named at all, simply existing as texture within these larger regions. But even this list is a clearer picture of Leonida’s actual shape than most fans had a year ago, and it’s a good reminder that “the map is set in Florida” undersells just how much regional variety Rockstar is building into it.
